In the Church Collegiate of Santa Maria Assunta in the small town of Arrone, Umbria, the central apse has been

realized by a joint work of two great Masters: Giovanni di Pietro, aka Lo Spagna and Vincenzo Tamagni.

For the first one, please see the restoration of the apse in the Church of San Michele Arcangelo in Gavelli.

Vincenzo Tamagni, 1492 - 1516, was born in San Gimignano, Tuscany.

He became an apprentice first with il Sodoma, and then worked in the Vatican Loggie under Raphael in Rome.

Tamagni is featured in Giorgio Vasari’s "Lives of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects",

and is referred to as Vincenzo da San Gimignano.

The iconography of the fresco cycle is inspired

by Filippo Lippi's paintings in the

apse of the Cathedral of Spoleto

dedicated to Our

Lady.
