In the Church of Santa Maria Nova in Gubbio, the same as the Nelli's Maestà del Belvedere,

the walls are covered by frescoes, many of them attributed to two painters,

the one being from Gubbio, Mello da Gubbio and the second one,

actually being two brothers, Lorenzo and Jacopo Salimbeni,

coming from the neighboring region of Marche.

For Mello da Gubbio we know that died in 1360,

Biographical data regarding the brothers Salimbeni - ca. 1370 - after 1426 - are sparse.

Both of the Salimbeni conform in style to the school

of Gentile da Fabriano, who in fact

belonged to the same

generation.
