A trompe l'oeil that shows a shelf with three vases and a shelf with a bust of a

child having his hair covered with vine leaves.

The two lateral vases made of lapislazuli and gold are of a British manufacture (18th century).

The central one is a Greek red figures vase inspired by another larger vase - a krater from the Greek colony of Apulia, Italy,

ca 405 - 385 BCE, exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Taranto, Italy, as shown in the last picture.

I took just the central scene of the birth of Dionysos that shows the god rising from

the thigh of Zeus while Hera stretches out her arms to grab him.
The two different proveniences of the vases

(British and Greek) are related

to the owners’ countries

of origin.
