In 2012 by an initiative of the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage in collaboration with Department of Antiquities of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Israel Antiquities Authority, has been started a joint project for the restoration of the bridge Jaser Almaima’ah/Gesher.
Due to the historical importance of the bridge, Italian, Israeli and Jordanian sides agreed to undertake
this common initiative aiming at the preservation of the monument.
The ancient bridge near to Khan Gesher(Jisr el-Majami)
crosses the Jordan river, south of the Lake of Tiberias,
and is located on a major route or on its
alternative axis in this area,
connecting Egypt to Syria
(Damascus), the ancient
Via Maris.
