Another artist from the northern countries of Europe, Giovanni Tedesco or Teutonico, that worked in Italy in the 15th century.

Very "German" or better northern, is the rough realism particularly in the representation of Jesus crucified. 

This Crucifix has been conceived in order to impress the believer during the Easter celebration.

For this reason the arms are movable and the joints that permitted to perform the moment

of the Deposition, putting the arms along the body,

can be seen in the 2nd and the 3rd picture.

But what must have mostly impressed

the believers was the tongue that

was moved by pulling a string

through a mechanism

placed in the

back of the

statue.
